How To Make Regular Nail Polish Last Longer Than Gel

INTRODUCTION

Hot take y’all are sleeping on regular
nail lacquer hear me out I love a gel
manicure but when applied correctly and
using good products a regular polish
manicure offers more flexibility than a
gel manicure but how do you get it to
last well I’m going to show you that in
this video I’m going to go over 11 tips
and tricks I do to make my regular
polish manicure last just as long as a
gel manicure first up regular polish is

Nail Enhancement

Going to apply better and last way
longer to a nail enhancement so I’m
talking a polygel manicure it can be a
full coverage press on nail it can be
acrylic nails it can be a dip powder
base manicure anything other than your
natural nails is going to hold on to
regular polish better because your
natural nails have oils in them no
matter how much of it you remove with a
dehydrator or cleanser they’re always
going to produce some oils which is
going to make your manicure not last as
long in this video I have a semi- grown
out Builder gel manicure which is what
I’ve been wearing lately with regular
nail polish and I’ve been getting up to
2 weeks with my regular nail polish and
by the way I do have a video all about
this and you can click on your screen
here to watch that so if you’re someone
that struggles with your regular nail
polish lasting long or you just know you
have oily nail beds naturally try a nail
enhancement and see if that fixes the
problem another crucial step for making
a regular nail polish manicure last

Nail Prep

Longer is nail prep for a long time I
would just apply base coat straight to
my nails without any prep and my
manicures lasted maybe like two 3 days
but now I give them the full prep
routine pretty much the same as I do
with a gel manicure I use a nail buffing
block to lightly buff the surface of my
nail so that it has a little bit of
texture and it removed any of that shine
that I had on from the Builder gel and
then I’m going to use alcohol to
thoroughly clean my nails off we don’t
want any debris and we want to try to
Dehydrator
remove as much oils from our nails as
possible okay now this trick you have to
try you know how you can get a
dehydrator for your nails that you use
for a gel manicure well I use this right
before a regular polish manicure and it
just really seals the deal for prep it
makes that surface completely dehydrated
so that the base coat really adheres to
the nail and speaking of base coat I’ve

Base Coat

talked about this a lot on my channel
but I highly recommend trying out a
rubberized base coat this is going to
mean when it dries it has a little bit
of a sticky texture and that’s going to
really grab the regular polish you put
over top I love this one from Orly I’ve
been using it for years but there are
lots of different rubberized base coats
now you can follow all those prep steps

Application

but truthfully the longevity of a
manicure comes down to how good the
Polish is that you use nail polish
technology has come a long way and it’s
kind of hard to find a bad nail polish
but I really like OPI I can apply two
Thin coats and I know it’s going to be
opaque I know it’s going to dry quickly
and I know it’s gonna last but I also
like Essie and Orly and there are tons
of nail polish brands out there so it’s
worth investing in some trying them out
and seeing how they work with you and
your nails when it comes to application
to get the most out of your manicure I
always recommend applying two Thin coats
letting that first layer dry completely
and then come in with a second coat and
let that fully dry you want that polish
to fully Harden on your nail that’s why
you want each coat to fully dry before
you apply another if you don’t there
could be little air bubble Pockets that
form in between and that could cause
your manicure to wear down
quicker and while I’m applying my polish
I try my best not to get it on my skin
because that could cause premature
lifting but if you do don’t worry you
can always use an angled brush or like
an old makeup brush dip that into some
acetone and go around the edge of your
Clean Up
manicure to clean up the skin and this
also so seals all those layers of Polish
to keep any air or liquid from getting
in along the same lines always cap your
Cap Free Edge
free Edge this just means drag a little
bit of that product right along the free
Edge this is going to really seal in the
nail with Polish and help prevent chips
Top Coat
now in my personal opinion this is what
makes or breaks a manicure top coat you
want a good top coat and if you want a
manicure that’s going to last I suggest
using a top coat that is kind of
Plumping like a gel polish and doing two
coats of this so after my red manicure
has dried here I applied one coat of the
top coat let that fully dry and then I’m
going to apply a second coat and as you
can see I also capping the free edge
with each layer while I have found that
applying too many layers of a colored
polish can make your manicure peel off I
found if you do thin coats of the color
coat and then two coats of a top coat it
gives it a gel-like manicure effect and
it really seals in that color and your
manicure lasts so much longer and can
you honestly tell me this doesn’t look
like a gel manicure it’s so shiny it has
that like juicy like plump texture but
it’s real nail polish and the beauty of
it is I can take it off in 5 minutes I
don’t have to soak anything now to
really increase the longevity of your
Chip Control
manicure if for some reason you do get a
chip I suggest immediately doing damage
control so that the chip doesn’t get
worse or that the color doesn’t
completely peel off my method to fix
chips is to use my cleanup brush dipped
in acetone and I go around the edges of
that chip to smooth them out so that
they’re more flush with my natural nail
apply more of the color coat just into
that chip area you may need to do two
coats and then I smooth out the surface
with another layer of top coat it’s also
super important to keep your skin
healthy with your manicure on if you
start to get dry skin you’re probably
going to start to pick out your cuticles
and if you’re picking out your cuticles
you might start to pick at your manicure
so if you keep your cuticles moisturized
your regular polish manicure is going to
last longer by default but the number
one reason your regular polish manicure
Protect Your Nails
is not lasting long is because you
aren’t protecting your manicure when
you’re doing chores or anything that
exposes your nails or hands to harsh
environments just wear gloves and for
crying out loud stop using your
beautiful nails as tools a lot of times
you can use like another household item
like a coin or even just use like the
pad of your finger to open things but if
you want your manicure to stay beautiful
and last long don’t use your nails as
tools so there you have 11 tips and

manicure last longer if you have any
